Overview of Research

My research focuses on biological variation in living human populations, particularly variation in physical growth and development among human populations. I am interested in understanding how the environment influences growth during the lifetime of the individual and how body size variation has evolved. Most of my research has focused on South American populations, and I have conducted research on general patterns of variation in body size and shape in indigenous South American populations, on the effects of high altitude hypoxia on child growth, and on the growth of lowland tropical forest populations.
